As a mom of three little animaniacs (I used to love that show as a kid), productivity and balance are super challenging. I run a full-time consulting business, blog (now two!) and have day to day duties on top of taking care of a five-month-old all day- and night. Since I am nursing, he’s literally attached to my hip it seems like. But I love it!
Because I do have so much on my plate, the use of certain productivity apps help keep me sane and from pulling out every strand of my hair.
All of these apps are free to download and free to use. I love free any day of the week! I hope these will help you create balance in your life and be more productive! These are not all specific to moms, but I think you will find these are some great productivity apps for moms.
I absolutely can NOT live without my Google calendar. I use a scheduling program that is integrated with my calendar so whenever appointments are made, they automatically sync to my calendar. Outside of work, I can schedule the kids’ school activities, any doctor’s appointments, playdates, or date nights. I can also add my husband’s calendar so that we know what’s going on with each other. It works well to keep us on the same page.
I am one of those people who get ideas or think of something suddenly and if I don’t make a note of it right then, I will forget. That’s why I love using Evernote. I can quickly make notes of my crazy ideas or braindump if I need to. It can also streamline across other devices. So if baby Ayden’s doctor calls and it’s one of those moments when I can’t find a pen or paper or neither, I can jot it down in Evernote and be reminded of it later to put in my calendar. You can also share your notes. I can easily make a grocery list and send it to my husband so he can pick up what’s needed on his way home from work. Teamwork makes the dream work!
I am a list-maker for sure. Having a clear, defined to do list that I can mark off things as I do them. It helps me feel accomplished when I have completed what I set out to do for the day. The Todoist app is perfect for my fellow list-makers. You can delegate tasks within the app and break up large projects. There are some really cool features. My favorite being that it integrates with Evernote and Google, and some other platforms like IFTT and Dropbox. There is a free plan and an upgraded plan ($29). But the free plan works just perfectly.
Do you know how much time I waste with my emails? Tons! As a busy mom, I don’t have time to always check or delete my emails. I am subscribed to a lot of retail and blog email lists. They were cluttering my inbox and draining time from my day. I downloaded the UnrollMe app and it’s been a truly amazing app! You basically enter the email to connect, it finds all the lists you are subscribed to and then provides you with the option to unsubscribe or roll up. If you choose to roll up, it will create a daily email that goes out either in the morning or in the evening with all of your rolled up emails. It’s like getting a daily newspaper with those emails instead of them loading your inbox all throughout the day so you can focus on the other mom things you have going on- like cleaning poop off the couch after an extreme baby diaper explosion.
Another great calendar app that I have found to be great for moms is Cozi. Much like any other calendar app, you can save appointments and events. You can also have a text reminder of what is coming up. My absolute favorite feature is that you can color code tasks, events, and appointments by each family member to keep up with what appointments are for who. You can capture and save family moments, keep track of lists (shopping, gifts, grocery), store recipes, and so much more. It’s really a family all in one app.
Creating balance and being productive is my #1 goal for 2017. I have so many things going on and day to day tasks that must be done and I have to stay informed on what is going on around me. In order to keep my sanity, I depend on these apps as well as my planner to help me stay productive and on track. A few other things I use to stay productive throughout the day are my Erin Condren 12 month 2017 Life Planner and our Echo Dot! (affiliate links)
